Lifeguard founder Jeff Hardy wanted to create an emergency response application specifically targeted to help deal with the opiod drug overdose problem in Canada. Because Jeff did not have a software development background he contacted Essential Designs to work as his design and development team.

The objective for Lifeguard was to create a mobile app that would enable drug users to have a way for emergency responders to be notified in the event of an overdose. The app would utilize the users phone for GPS location as well as text to speech technology to contact emergency dispatchers and provide them with details on where to find the user who was overdosing. The app would be available for both android and Apple phones.

Essential designs worked with Lifeguard to take their initial sketches and build out wireframes and clickable mockups based off their vision for the app. Once design was complete our development team coded the app and deployed it to both app stores, and we then worked with Lifeguard to go through several rounds of QA and user testing to ensure all components of the app worked. As the final step Essential Designs worked with Lifeguard and local emergency responders to do live testing to ensure the app met their requirements.
