It laid its foundation in 1962 as the Canterbury Christ Church College to provide training to the teachers. Later, in 1995, the Privy Council granted the degree awarding powers. In 2005, it gained university status and got its present name. It is home to more than 15,000 students and has three campuses in England. The university works with the motto of "Veritas liberabit vos", which translates to "The truth shall set you free".
